The Platypus lives in rivers and streams in eastern Australia and Tasmania, and is found nowhere else in the world. It has a wide flat bill, webbed feet and thick waterproof fur. Even more unusual, it is a mammal that lays eggs! The platypus comes out of its burrow at night, and searches the water for worms, snails and crayfiish. Males have a special spur, or claw, on the back of their foot that is poisonous.
